Perched on a terraced hillside in Orinda, this compact outdoor space was reimagined to feel expansive. 

What began as a tight footprint transformed into a multi-level retreat designed for modern living and intimate entertaining. Clean lines and contemporary finishes bring a sleek sensibility, while thoughtful material choices and soft plantings—like potted olives- introduce warmth and texture. The design balances structure and soul, making the space feel calm, open, and surprisingly generous.

At its heart, this garden was about redefining what a “small” space can be. A built-in fireplace creates a cozy anchor point for cooler evenings, while subtle terracing carves out purposeful zones for lounging, dining, and gathering—without overwhelming the site. The result is both striking and serene: a hillside escape that reflects the couple’s love for modern design, while inviting a slower, more connected rhythm of outdoor living.
